Bradley Fink's Resurgence: From Dortmund Starlet to Dundee Fan Favorite
Football · Words by John Martinez · Released
After a challenging journey from Borussia Dortmund to Dundee, Bradley Fink is showcasing his talent in the Scottish Premiership, leading a remarkable revival.

Bradley Fink's recent transformation from a promising talent at Borussia Dortmund to a fan favorite at Dundee FC is a testament to his resilience and skill. Once heralded as one of Switzerland's brightest prospects, Fink navigated through challenging seasons before finding his footing in the Scottish Premiership.
Early Promise at Borussia Dortmund
Fink's journey began when he signed for Borussia Dortmund in 2019, coinciding with fellow recruit Giovanni Reyna's arrival. From the outset, he was immersed in a competitive environment, practicing alongside established stars like Mats Hummels and Jadon Sancho. His early days at Signal Iduna Park were electrifying, especially with the subsequent signings of Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham, both of whom became pivotal fixtures in the team.
The young Swiss forward's aspirations were high when he made the move from Luzern. He stated, ‘It was my dream to run out at Luzern’s home stadium, but I think my chances of becoming professional are higher at Dortmund than they were at Luzern.’ He envisioned playing in front of 80,000 fans, a feat he felt was within reach given his prodigious talent.
Scoring Prodigy at Youth Level
Fink's reputation as a goal-scoring machine began early. At Luzern, he netted an astonishing 40 goals in just 21 matches at the under-16 level, a record that contributed significantly to his team winning the double. His prowess also caught the attention of the national team, where he scored seven times in as many appearances for Switzerland's under-17 squad. Even leading sports brands like Puma recognized his potential, featuring him prominently in their advertisements.
Dortmund’s faith in him was evident as they scouted him multiple times before signing him for a mere £166,000 in compensation. He made an immediate impact with Dortmund's second team, recording 12 goals and four assists in 18 appearances, solidifying his status as the league's third-highest scorer. His debut in the UEFA Youth League against Barcelona underscored his burgeoning talent.
A Difficult Path to Prominence
Despite his talent, Fink faced immense competition at Dortmund, particularly from Haaland, who was three years older and enjoyed a meteoric rise to fame. Fink reflected on this phase, saying, ‘It was a very good time playing and training with the first team... the experience of training with Haaland, Bellingham and all of them was very, very good.’ However, he acknowledged the challenges of competing with such renowned players.
Ultimately, the competition proved too stiff, prompting Fink to return to Switzerland with Basel in 2022, where he hoped for more first-team opportunities. Nonetheless, his time at Basel was underwhelming, yielding only five goals in 25 league appearances during the 2022-23 season. A loan to Grasshopper didn’t spark the resurgence some had anticipated, leading to further frustration with just two goals in 31 matches.
Setbacks and a Move to Wycombe Wanderers
In 2025, Fink took a step into League One with Wycombe Wanderers, aiming to revitalize his career. Unfortunately, bad luck followed him there. He suffered a quad muscle injury during training, sidelining him during crucial pre-season matches. When he finally found fitness, manager Mike Dodds, who signed him, was no longer at the helm, limiting his playing time to just two starts and two goals in 21 appearances throughout the season.
A Fresh Start at Dundee FC
Fink's fortunes changed when he joined Dundee FC at the beginning of the current season. The unfortunate injury to Simon Murray created an immediate vacancy in the squad, leading manager Steven Pressley to reach out to Fink. Recognizing his potential despite recent struggles, Pressley offered him a way back into a competitive setting.
Initially coming off the bench, Fink made an instant impact in his debut against rivals Tannadice, helping secure a 2-0 victory. Since then, he’s scored impressive goals against Hearts and Motherwell, demonstrating not only his scoring ability but also his adept link-up play that he refined during his development years at Dortmund.
Looking Ahead
At just 23 years old, Fink is on the cusp of his rebirth as a player. He’s embodying the ambition that once defined his early career, and with the support of Dundee’s fans, the sky seems to be the limit. His resurgence illustrates how adapting and seizing opportunities can turn setbacks into stepping stones. As he continues to grow in the Scottish Premiership, fans are eager to see just how far he can go in his blossoming career.
